An FIR has been lodged in Dehradun's Premnagar area against a man and four of his family members, including his siblings, for allegedly concealing his suspected serious medical condition after his wife was diagnosed with HIV and died days later.
Details of the Case
Police reported that the matter came to light on Saturday. The woman, who had been married to the accused for a few years and had a son with him, passed away at a city hospital in March.
Sub-inspector Pradyumna Negi stated that on February 14, the woman was admitted to a hospital. During treatment, doctors conducted several tests, including one for HIV. The next day, her HIV test returned positive. Subsequently, doctors advised the accused and their son to undergo HIV testing, but the man left the hospital with the boy.
Negi added that the woman's health deteriorated, and she was placed on a ventilator. The man then sent his HIV test report via WhatsApp to the woman's brother, showing a negative result.
The woman died on March 2. Doctors again urged the accused to get tested for HIV, but he and his family left the city. Later, the woman's brother contacted the hospital from which the man claimed to have obtained the test report. Hospital management, however, had no knowledge of such a test.
Legal Action
A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said the accused will be summoned soon for questioning.
