The India Meteorological Department issued a weather alert on Tuesday. It predicts cold wave conditions and dense fog for many parts of Odisha over the next three days.
Districts Under Cold Wave Grip
Several districts will face intense cold during this period. Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, and Jharsuguda are specifically mentioned for cold wave conditions.
Fog to Disrupt Visibility
Dense fog is also expected in multiple areas. Sundargarh, Puri, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Koraput districts are likely to witness reduced visibility due to fog.
Expert Analysis on Weather Patterns
Scientist Manorama Mohanty, who heads the regional IMD centre, explained the situation. She stated that the current wind pattern will support the development of both cold waves and fog. However, she clarified that no large change in minimum temperature is anticipated this week.
Current Cold Wave Statistics
This forecast comes as cold wave conditions persisted in two districts on Tuesday. Jharsuguda and Angul continued to experience severe cold.
- Jharsuguda recorded a minimum temperature of 7.2°C. This represents a significant drop of 4.9°C from the normal level.
- Angul saw a minimum of 8.8°C. The temperature here dropped by 5.2°C from normal, marking the day's highest drop.
- Bhubaneswar experienced a minimum of 12.4°C, which is 2.8°C below normal.
- Cuttack recorded 11.4°C, a drop of 3°C from normal.
State's Lowest Temperature Recorded
The hill station G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district registered the state's lowest temperature at 4.6°C. Other areas like Rourkela and Phulbani recorded 7.1°C. Dense fog in Rourkela disrupted visibility, causing potential travel issues.
IMD Bulletin Details
The IMD bulletin provided further specifics on temperature deviations. Minimum temperatures were markedly below normal by about 5°C at isolated places in north interior districts. They were appreciably below normal by 3°C to 5°C at one or two places in north Odisha. Additionally, temperatures were below normal by 2°C to 3°C at many places in south coastal districts and at isolated spots in south interior and north Odisha.
Residents across Odisha should prepare for chilly conditions and limited visibility. The IMD advises caution, especially for early morning travelers and outdoor workers.
