Ranchi DC Urges Protection for Kids in Cold Wave

Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Issues Cold Weather Advisory for Schools and Families

Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri made a direct appeal on Wednesday. He called on schools and parents across Ranchi district to take strong precautions. This urgent request comes as weather conditions continue to fluctuate dangerously.

Cold Wave Persists in Yellow Zone

The district administration previously extended school closures. They also restricted timings for senior classes due to a severe cold wave. That specific order lasted until January 14th. Officials have not issued a further extension at this time.

However, the cold threat remains very real. Bhajantri confirmed the current situation in an official statement. "The minimum temperature in the district is currently hovering between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius," he stated. The cold wave situation officially remains in the yellow alert zone.

"Protection from cold-related health problems is extremely necessary," the Deputy Commissioner emphasized. He specifically listed risks like common colds, persistent coughs, pneumonia, and hypothermia.

Precautions for the General Public

Bhajantri did not limit his advice to schools alone. He appealed broadly to all residents of Ranchi. His guidance for the general public is clear and practical.

  • Continue taking all necessary cold weather precautions.
  • Wear proper, layered winter clothing at all times.
  • Avoid venturing out unnecessarily during early morning and late night hours.
  • Exercise extreme caution when dense fog reduces visibility.

He further urged people to stay indoors as much as possible. Consuming warm beverages can help maintain body heat. The Deputy Commissioner stressed special care for vulnerable groups. This includes the elderly, very young children, and individuals suffering from serious pre-existing illnesses.

Specific Directives for Parents and Schools

Addressing parents directly, Bhajantri provided specific instructions for children's safety.

  1. Children should only be sent outside after being dressed in adequate warm clothing.
  2. Parents should avoid sending children to school too early in the morning when temperatures are lowest.
  3. "While going to school, students must be fully dressed in warm clothes," he insisted.
  4. If any child feels unwell, the teacher or parent must be informed immediately for prompt action.

The administration's message is one of shared responsibility. While schools are open, vigilance from both educational institutions and families is paramount to safeguard children's health during this persistent cold spell.
