The Tamil Nadu government today issued appointment orders to 831 contract nurses. This move completes the regularization of 1,000 nurses announced following protests by contract nurses in December 2025.
Regularization Process Completed
Health and Family Welfare Minister Ma Subramanian distributed the appointment orders at an event held at Dr MGR Medical University. He described these orders as "Pongal gifts" for the nurses.
This development follows the earlier regularization of 169 nurses on December 26 last year. The government has now fulfilled its promise to regularize 1,000 contract nurses.
Minister Highlights Government's Record
Minister Subramanian emphasized the current government's achievements in nurse regularization. He stated that while the previous government from 2014 to 2021 regularized only about 1,600 nurses, the current administration has regularized 5,825 nurses since 2021 alone.
The minister announced further plans for regularization. He said the government would look to regularize 5,932 more nurses in phases during the coming term if it is voted back into power.
Additional Benefits for Healthcare Workers
The minister also announced salary revisions for other healthcare workers. He said the monthly salary for nearly 1,500 Reproductive and Child Health part-time workers in primary health centres would increase from 1,500 rupees to 5,000 rupees.
Regarding contract nurses, Subramanian addressed previous issues with salary hikes. He noted that a few contract nurses were left out of the earlier salary increase from 14,000 to 18,000 rupees due to technical glitches. These nurses will now receive the revised pay.
Frontline Workers to Receive Orders Soon
Minister Subramanian made another important announcement. He said 724 nurses who served as frontline workers during the pandemic would also receive appointment orders by the end of this month.
This comprehensive approach addresses multiple concerns within the nursing workforce. The government appears focused on improving conditions for healthcare workers across different categories.
