Vizag Police Commissioner Inaugurates PET-CT Scan at Apollo

Visakhapatnam: Vizag police commissioner Dr Shankhabrata Bagchi inaugurated the PET-CT (positron emission tomography-computed tomography) scanning service at Apollo Cancer Centre, Visakhapatnam. Addressing the gathering, Dr Bagchi shared his personal experiences as a caregiver to a cancer patient. He recounted that his father is a cancer survivor and highlighted how an advanced PET-CT scan played a crucial role in detecting that there was no relapse of cancer. He lauded Apollo's efforts in bridging cutting-edge technology with empathetic patient care, stating that the resilience of survivors, coupled with revolutionary medical science, provides immense hope to those currently fighting the disease.

Dr Keerthi Chandra, consultant in nuclear medicine, explained that the newly launched PET-CT service is a game-changer in cancer staging and response monitoring. By mapping metabolic activity in tumour cells, it detects malignancy with extraordinary precision, often well before anatomical changes appear on conventional scans.
