The Karnataka government has issued a statewide alert directing all hospitals to maintain heightened vigilance for potential Ebola cases. The order comes as part of proactive measures to prevent any outbreak of the deadly virus within the state.
Definition of Probable Case
According to the health department, a probable case is defined as any suspected individual who has had direct contact with a laboratory-confirmed Ebola patient within the past 21 days. This includes contact with bodily fluids, contaminated objects, or the deceased.
Hospital Preparedness
All medical facilities, both public and private, have been instructed to set up isolation wards and ensure adequate stocks of personal protective equipment. Staff are being trained on infection control protocols and symptom recognition. Early symptoms include fever, severe headache, muscle pain, and weakness.
The alert emphasizes immediate reporting of any suspected case to the district health officer. Designated laboratories have been put on standby for rapid testing. The state has also activated its disease surveillance network to track any unusual patterns of illness.
Health officials urge the public not to panic but to remain aware, especially those traveling from affected regions. No confirmed cases have been reported in Karnataka so far.
