Udupi: Chellaram Access Life at MAHE Manipal, a facility for paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) patients, was inaugurated on Saturday. The centre is operated by Access Life, a registered Indian non-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring that no child has to abandon cancer treatment due to non-medical challenges. This new centre aims to support families of children undergoing treatment at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.
Inauguration Ceremony
The inauguration was presided over by Dr H S Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). Dr Ashok Gavande, Philanthropy India Lead at Chellaram Foundation, Mumbai, served as the chief guest, while Dr Anand Venugopal, Chief Operating Officer of MAHE, was the guest of honour.
Facility Features
The 10-unit facility has been specially designed for children undergoing BMT procedures. Maintaining a safe, hygienic, and controlled environment is critical during treatment and recovery due to severely compromised immunity levels. The centre provides a supportive space for families, helping them stay close to their loved ones during this challenging time.
Access Life's commitment to removing non-medical barriers to cancer treatment is exemplified by this new centre, which ensures that families can focus on their child's recovery without additional burdens. The collaboration between Access Life, Chellaram Foundation, and MAHE highlights the importance of community support in paediatric healthcare.
