Emergency Pacemaker Surgery Saves 77-Year-Old Woman in Lucknow

Lucknow: Doctors at a city hospital saved the life of a 77-year-old woman by performing an emergency pacemaker surgery while she was in cardiogenic shock, a critical condition in which the heart becomes too weak to pump enough blood to the body. The condition caused dangerously low blood pressure and unconsciousness.

Patient's Condition and Symptoms

Doctors said Namita Srivastava had been suffering from severe breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness and repeated fainting episodes for nearly a month. Recently, she was brought to Max Super Specialty Hospital and was operated on in an emergency while being continuously given medicines to maintain her falling blood pressure.

Rare and High-Risk Case

“Such cases are rare and mortality in them is nearly 60% because the failing heart is unable to supply enough blood to vital organs, leading to circulatory collapse,” doctors said. The cardiology team was led by Dr Danish Hasan Kazmi. He said after surgery the patient showed significant improvement and was discharged on Friday.
