A sombre atmosphere enveloped the Ashwath Nagar neighbourhood in Shivamogga on Friday after the shocking discovery of two bodies inside a residence. The deceased have been identified as Dr Jayashree, a 55-year-old senior gynaecologist, and her 34-year-old son, Akash, a realtor.
Discovery of the Bodies and the Suicide Note
While the bodies were found in the morning, local police were officially informed only in the afternoon. The mother and son were discovered in separate rooms of their house. A death note was found at the scene, which has become a crucial piece of evidence for the investigating officers. Authorities have seized the note and are analysing its contents as part of their probe into this apparent double suicide.
A History of Personal Tragedy and Strain
Preliminary investigations by the police point towards a series of distressing events within the family. According to Additional SP A G Kariyappa, Dr Jayashree had been deeply affected by the death of her son's first wife, Navyashri, who reportedly died by suicide last year. This loss had left a lasting emotional scar on the family.
Further strain emerged from financial disagreements. It is alleged that Akash had asked his mother for money to support his real estate business, leading to arguments between them. Dr Jayashree, a noted medical practitioner in the area, was a widow; her husband passed away several years ago. Akash had remarried just five months prior to this incident, adding another layer of complexity to the family dynamics being examined.
Police Investigation Underway
The Shivamogga police are conducting a thorough investigation to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to this tragedy. They are scrutinising the death note, interviewing family members and acquaintances, and looking into the financial and emotional state of both deceased individuals. The case highlights the severe impact of compounded grief and familial stress.
The local community has been left in a state of shock and mourning by the loss of the respected doctor and her son. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of mental health support and intervention during times of prolonged emotional distress and family conflict.
