The Gurugram Municipal Corporation (MCG) is set to relaunch its much-anticipated Animal Birth Control (ABC) program this November, marking a significant step forward in addressing the city's growing stray dog population. After months of suspension, the initiative is finally getting back on track with renewed vigor and improved infrastructure.
New Veterinary Partnerships for Enhanced Operations
In a strategic move to ensure the program's success, MCG has partnered with two specialized veterinary organizations to conduct the sterilization procedures. The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) will operate from their center in Kherki Majra, while the Jeev Ashray team will manage operations from the Dhanwapur facility.
MCG Chief Medical Officer Dr. Narahari Singh Bagri confirmed that both centers have received the necessary approvals from the Animal Welfare Board, paving the way for uninterrupted sterilization activities throughout the city.
Comprehensive Coverage Across All Zones
The sterilization drive will be implemented systematically across all four municipal zones of Gurugram. Each veterinary partner has been assigned specific areas of operation to ensure comprehensive coverage:
- The SPCA team will focus on zones 1 and 4
- Jeev Ashray will handle sterilization operations in zones 2 and 3
This zonal approach promises more efficient and organized implementation of the ABC program, addressing stray dog concerns in every corner of the city.
Addressing Public Safety Concerns
The revival of the sterilization program comes as a relief to residents who have been increasingly concerned about the rising number of stray dogs in residential areas, parks, and public spaces. Sterilization has proven to be the most humane and effective long-term solution for managing stray dog populations while reducing human-animal conflicts.
With the November restart, Gurugram MC aims to significantly curb the growth of stray dog numbers, making the city safer for both residents and the animals themselves. The systematic implementation of the ABC program represents a crucial step toward creating a more harmonious urban environment for all inhabitants.
