Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday took charge of a crucial review meeting, focusing on the progress of key budget announcements made by the state's Public Health Engineering Department. The CM laid down strict directives, emphasising that all pending projects must be finished within their set deadlines to ensure citizens receive basic amenities without delay.
Progress on Rural and Urban Infrastructure
During the high-level meeting, officials apprised the Chief Minister of the significant headway under the Mahagram Yojana. This scheme aims to provide urban-standard drinking water and sewerage facilities in selected villages. The work is advancing at a rapid pace, with three villages already having their networks fully completed. These villages are Bhora Kalan in Gurugram, Bhainswal Kalan in Sonipat, and Khambi in Palwal.
For the remaining villages under this initiative, the department has set a firm target. Officials confirmed that the work in two other villages is scheduled for completion by December 31, marking a major step in upgrading rural infrastructure across the state.
Accelerating Sewer Line Expansion in Cities
Another major budget announcement involved laying 150 kilometres of new sewer lines across various cities. The review revealed that 23 cities have been identified for this project. Of the total target, an impressive 100 kilometres of sewer lines has already been laid. The remaining 50 kilometres of work is expected to be wrapped up within the next three months, as per the updates provided to the CM.
Push for Recycling and Reusing Treated Wastewater
Chief Minister Saini outlined a critical long-term objective for the government: to curb the excessive extraction of groundwater for drinking water needs. The alternative strategy is to promote the maximum utilisation of treated wastewater. He instructed all concerned departments to coordinate effectively and give high priority to projects focused on recycling and reuse.
The meeting was informed that the treated wastewater from Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) operated by the Public Health Engineering Department is already being supplied to industrial units and the irrigation department. This initiative is successfully reducing the consumption of fresh water in both industrial and agricultural sectors.
Taking this further, CM Saini directed officials to explore more possibilities in this direction and strive to ensure 100 per cent reuse of treated wastewater. This move is seen as vital for sustainable water management in the state.
Emphasis on Responsibility and Urgency
Throughout the review, Nayab Singh Saini stressed that the government's top priority is the prompt and effective delivery of basic amenities to the people. He called upon every officer to work with a heightened sense of responsibility and urgency to meet the stipulated timelines. The clear message was to translate budget announcements into tangible results on the ground for the benefit of Haryana's citizens.
