The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places in Kerala, which will remain in force until May 9. According to the forecast, several districts are expected to experience heavy downpours over the next few days.
District-Wise Rainfall Predictions
On Monday, Wayanad, Palakkad, and Idukki are likely to witness heavy rainfall at one or two locations. The following day, Tuesday, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Wayanad are expected to receive heavy showers. By Wednesday, the heavy rain zone will shift to Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur. On Thursday, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam will be affected.
Thunderstorm and Lightning Warning
The IMD has cautioned that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are very likely to occur at one or two places across the state until Thursday. Residents are advised to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure safety during these weather events.
UV Index and Cloud Cover
On Sunday, many places in Kerala remained cloudy, which helped reduce the impact of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The highest UV index of the day was recorded in Munnar at 8. No hot and humid weather warning has been issued for any location in the state for the coming days.
Precautionary Measures
In view of the alert, the IMD has urged people to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open areas, and refrain from using electrical appliances. Farmers and those in coastal areas should remain vigilant.
