Kanpur Issues Cold Wave Advisory: Key Precautions & Temperature Drop
Kanpur Cold Wave: Admin Issues Health Advisory

The district administration in Kanpur has issued a crucial public health advisory for residents, urging them to take immediate precautions against the ongoing cold wave and plummeting temperatures across the region. The advisory, released on Sunday, outlines a series of essential measures to safeguard citizens from the severe winter conditions.

Essential Safety Measures Outlined

The administration has advised the public to stay informed about the latest weather updates through reliable sources such as local radio, newspapers, television, and mobile alerts. A significant emphasis has been placed on safety while using indoor heating methods. Residents have been cautioned to exercise extra care with fireplaces and heaters, ensuring proper ventilation by allowing fresh air to circulate in rooms to prevent accidents and gas poisoning.

For those without adequate heating facilities at home, the administration has directed them to utilize community centres and shelter homes where arrangements for bonfires have been made. The advisory strongly recommends avoiding prolonged exposure to the cold, especially during peak foggy hours.

Special Care for Vulnerable Groups & Health Tips

The advisory highlights the need for special attention towards children and the elderly. It recommends that they remain indoors as much as possible during periods of severe cold and dense fog. Key health recommendations include consuming nutritious food, seeking exposure to sunlight to maintain body warmth, and seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms of hypothermia appear.

Instead of relying on single pieces of heavy clothing, people are advised to wear multiple layers of loose, light, and windproof woollen garments. The use of caps and mufflers is also stressed. To boost immunity and stay hydrated, the advisory recommends an increased intake of Vitamin C, fruits, vegetables, and hot liquids.

Weather Forecast and Current Conditions

Meanwhile, weather authorities have predicted fluctuating temperatures. The Indian Meteorological Department and weather expert Dr Sunil Pandey have forecast variations in day and night temperatures across Uttar Pradesh, including the Kanpur division. Due to high humidity levels, conditions of pollution and fog are expected to persist, with a possibility of dense fog during morning and evening hours.

High clouds and humid conditions are likely to continue over the next few days, though mild sunshine is expected during the daytime. Northwesterly winds are also predicted to prevail. On the day of the advisory, Kanpur recorded a minimum temperature of 6.43 degrees Celsius, which was 3.2 degrees below the normal level. The maximum temperature was recorded at 18.4 degrees Celsius, marking a deviation of 3.3 degrees below the seasonal average. The maximum relative humidity was high at 95 per cent, with northwesterly winds blowing at a speed of 2 km per hour.
