Kanpur Health Department Launches Measles-Rubella Elimination Campaign
The health department in Kanpur Nagar district has announced a comprehensive measles-rubella elimination campaign, scheduled to run from February 16 to February 27. This initiative is strategically organized on 4-6 non-RI days, specifically excluding Wednesdays and Saturdays, to maximize outreach and efficiency in vaccination efforts.
Targeting School Children for Vaccination Coverage
Under this campaign, all children studying in classes 1 to 5 across all government educational institutions in the district will be covered through measles-rubella vaccination. The focus on school-aged children aims to build herd immunity and prevent outbreaks of these preventable diseases.
Awareness Rally Kicks Off Campaign
To raise public awareness, an awareness rally was conducted at 9.30 am on Friday, starting from the Kanshiram Joint Hospital and Trauma Centre in Kanpur Nagar. The rally passed through Ramadevi Chauraha and returned to the hospital premises, symbolizing community engagement in health initiatives. It was officially flagged off by Chief Medical Officer Dr Haridatt Nemi, who emphasized the importance of public participation.
Campaign Goals and Public Appeal
The health department stated that the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign is a critical health initiative designed to eliminate measles and rubella by vaccinating children aged 9 months to 15 years. Dr Haridatt Nemi made a heartfelt appeal to residents, urging them to cooperate in making this campaign successful. He highlighted that community support is essential for achieving high vaccination rates and protecting vulnerable populations from these infectious diseases.
This campaign underscores Kanpur's commitment to public health, aiming to reduce disease burden and promote a healthier future for its young residents through proactive immunization strategies.
