The Karnataka High Court has issued an interim order allowing students who have passed the SSLC examination to secure admission to various paramedical diploma courses for the academic year 2026-27. This decision brings significant relief to the Karnataka State Paramedical Institutions Managements Association, which represents around 640 colleges across the state.
Court Order Details
Justice E.S. Indiresh, in a recent ruling, observed that the member institutions of the association are eligible to admit students to diploma courses in fields such as medical laboratory technology, optometry technology, and imaging technology. However, the order is subject to the consideration of a representation submitted by the association to the state government and the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP).
Background of the Case
The association had approached the commission on February 11, 2026, seeking a relaxation of admission criteria for the 2026-27 academic year. Additionally, a plea was made to the state government on March 23, 2026, requesting approval for admissions based on the earlier SSLC qualification criteria, which had been omitted under the NCAHP Act.
This interim order ensures that students can continue their education in paramedical fields without disruption, pending the final decision on the association's representations. The ruling is expected to have a positive impact on the healthcare education sector in Karnataka, providing opportunities for SSLC graduates to pursue diploma courses in allied and healthcare professions.
