Madikeri Health Drive: Drug-Free India & Organ Donation Campaign

Madikeri Gears Up for Major Health and Wellness Awareness Drive

The city of Madikeri is set to host a significant public health initiative on February 7, combining the Nasha Mukt Bharat–Swasth Bharat (drug-free India–healthy India) campaign with a crucial organ donation awareness drive. This comprehensive event is being organized by the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in collaboration with multiple government and institutional partners.

Multi-Agency Collaboration for Public Health

The awareness campaign represents a coordinated effort involving the Kodagu district administration, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Kodagu Zilla Panchayat, the district health and family welfare department, police department, Narcotics Control Bureau, and the Disha Bhod Foundation. This broad coalition underscores the importance placed on addressing substance abuse and promoting organ donation as critical public health priorities.

Detailed Schedule and Activities

According to KIMS director Dr. AJ Lokesh, the awareness rally will commence at 7:00 AM from Gandhi Maidan. The procession will follow a designated route through key city landmarks including Mangerira Muttanna Circle, General Thimmaiah Circle, and Ajjamada B Devaiah Circle before concluding at the General KS Thimmaiah District Stadium. A specially organized street play will be performed to powerfully communicate the message of a drug-free India to the public.

Organ Donation Awareness Campaign

Parallel to the drug-free India initiative, medical authorities will launch a focused campaign on organ donation. Resident Medical Officer Dr. Dhananjaya emphasized the importance of this complementary effort. Medical Superintendent Dr. Somasekhar highlighted that organ donation should be entirely voluntary and represents a profound opportunity to save lives. District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Satish Kumar added that awareness programs will continue in schools and colleges until February 15 to maximize outreach.

Police Action Against Drug Trafficking

In related developments demonstrating the ongoing fight against substance abuse, Kodagu police have conducted significant operations resulting in multiple arrests and drug seizures. In one operation under the Somwarpet jurisdiction, police arrested four individuals involved in selling and using the banned substance ganja in Madapur. Authorities seized 753 grams of ganja in this operation, with the accused subsequently produced before a local court.

This action was conducted under the guidance of SP Bindu Mani and Somwarpet DSP Chandrasekhar. In a separate incident, police arrested another accused from Shantpur village near Kodlipet, seizing 850 grams of ganja along with a vehicle used in the illicit activity.

The timing of these police actions coincides with the broader awareness campaign, highlighting the multi-pronged approach being taken to address substance abuse in the region through both preventive education and law enforcement measures.
