Mayem Locals Confront Health Hazard as Animal Carcasses Pile Up
Residents in the Vannyar and Kelbaiwada areas of Mayem, Bicholim have sounded alarm bells over increasing incidents of illegal animal carcass dumping that have created both environmental and health concerns in recent weeks. The situation has reached a critical point where locals are demanding immediate intervention from authorities.
Sacred Space Violated by Foul Practice
According to distressed community members, unidentified individuals have been regularly discarding dead domesticated animals at a local garbage dumping site, turning what should be a routine waste management area into a source of constant distress. The location's proximity to a temple has particularly angered residents who consider this practice both disrespectful and hazardous.
Local resident Soma Naik expressed grave concerns about the deteriorating situation. "The rise in such incidents is alarming, especially since this area is near a temple," Naik stated. "Unknown persons are responsible for this activity, causing acute inconvenience to everyone due to the unbearable foul smell that permeates the entire neighborhood."
Community Demands Surveillance and Accountability
Another concerned local, Nagesh Naik, highlighted the urgent need for preventive measures. "There is a critical need to install CCTV cameras in this area to trace the culprits," he emphasized. The demand for surveillance equipment isn't new - residents had previously raised this issue during gram sabha meetings, but the problem persists without concrete action.
The repeated incidents have created multiple challenges for the community, including potential health risks, environmental pollution, and violation of religious sentiments. Residents now await decisive action from local authorities to permanently resolve this ongoing nuisance that has disrupted their daily lives and compromised their neighborhood's cleanliness.
