Moringa Powder Recall: Salmonella Outbreak in 7 States

Major Health Alert: Moringa Supplements Recalled Nationwide

Consumers across the United States are being warned to immediately check their dietary supplements containing moringa powder after a significant salmonella outbreak linked to products from an Indian supplier. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a nationwide recall affecting multiple brands and products.

Which Products Are Affected?

The recall stems from a single lot of organic moringa leaf powder manufactured by Vallon Farmdirect of Jodhpur, India. This contaminated batch has been connected to at least 11 confirmed illnesses and three hospitalizations across multiple states.

The affected products include:

  • Food to Live Organic Moringa Leaf Powder with Batch No.: VFD/ORG/MORP/L/24 and best by date of November 2027
  • Organic Supergreens Power Mix with lot codes SO-69006 through SO-72558
  • Africa Imports' Organic Moringa Leaf Powder (1kg boxes) sold after June 5
  • All Member's Mark Super Greens dietary supplement powder products regardless of lot codes and expiration dates

The recalled products were distributed in various sizes ranging from 8-ounce to 44-pound packages.

Where Has the Outbreak Spread?

Health authorities have confirmed salmonella cases in seven states: Florida, Kansas, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The widespread distribution means consumers nationwide should be vigilant.

These supplements reached consumers through multiple channels, including Food To Live's official website and major e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Walmart, Target, Etsy, and eBay.

What Should Consumers Do?

The FDA has issued clear instructions for anyone who may have purchased these products. Immediately stop using the supplements and do not consume them. Retailers have been instructed to remove these products from shelves and stop sales.

Consumers should properly discard the products and thoroughly sanitize any surfaces that the supplements or their containers may have touched to prevent cross-contamination.

Recognizing Salmonella Symptoms

Salmonella infection can cause serious gastrointestinal illness. According to medical experts, symptoms typically appear within 12 to 72 hours after exposure and may include:

  • Diarrhea and abdominal cramps
  • Fever and high temperature
  • Headaches and lethargy
  • Skin rash
  • Blood in urine or stool

If you experience any of these symptoms after consuming moringa supplements, contact a healthcare professional immediately for proper diagnosis and treatment.

The FDA investigation continues as authorities work to identify any additional products made with the contaminated moringa powder lot. Consumers are advised to stay updated on further recall announcements.
