The 'Gangotri to Ganga Sagar' campaign, a Central government initiative, will pass through the major Uttar Pradesh cities of Varanasi and Prayagraj before culminating in Ganga Sagar. Launched in Gangotri on June 13, the campaign is expected to reach Varanasi on June 17 and culminate in Ganga Sagar on June 20.
Grand Yoga Event at Ravidas Ghat
In Varanasi, a grand Yoga event will be held at Ravidas Ghat on the banks of the Ganga. This year's International Yoga Day theme is 'Yoga for healthy ageing'. Regional ayurveda and unani officer Arvind Kumar stated that the state's ayush department is organising yoga sessions at various ghats from June 15 to June 21 along Kashi's famous crescent-shaped ghats.
Coordination by Banaras Hindu University
The Vedic Darshan department of the Sanskrit Vidya Dharm Vigyan faculty at Banaras Hindu University is coordinating the programme in Varanasi. Convener Prof Shashikant Dwivedi said that the programme will be organised in eight cities across the country. He highlighted that a large number of people live along the Ganga banks, and their faith and livelihood are connected to the river, which is why the programme is linked with the continuous and clean stream of the Ganga.
Public Participation and Cleanliness Campaigns
Public participation campaigns and other activities are being organised to promote cleanliness and environmental conservation along the Ganga banks. On International Yoga Day, June 21, the event at Ravidas Ghat in Varanasi will take place from 7 am to 8 am as part of the 'Gangotri to Ganga Sagar' programme.
Invitations and Appeals
The programme is organised by the Ministry of Ayush through the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga. Padma awardees, public representatives, intellectuals, educationists, students, institutions, and yoga organisations are being invited. An appeal is also being made to the general public to join the programme.
