Amarnath Yatra 2026: Key Dates and Registration Details Unveiled

The Amarnath Yatra, one of India's most revered and extensive religious pilgrimages, is set to take place in 2026 from July 3 to August 9, covering a span of 38 days. Organized by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), this annual journey attracts thousands of devotees eager to visit the sacred Amarnath shrine nestled in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir. The pilgrimage is governed by strict eligibility and safety protocols to ensure a smooth and secure experience for all participants.

Registration Process: Online and Offline Options Available

Registration for the Amarnath Yatra 2026 will commence on April 15, 2026. Pilgrims have two primary methods to register: online via the SASB official website or the dedicated mobile application "Shri Amarnathji Yatra," or offline through designated bank branches. The registration fee is set at INR 150 per person.

Online Registration Requirements

For online registration, starting April 15, 2026, pilgrims must complete an OTP verification using their mobile phone number and email address. Additionally, they are required to upload a scanned copy of a Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) issued on or after April 8, 2026, along with a passport-sized photograph. This digital process aims to streamline applications and enhance accessibility for devotees across the country.

Offline Registration via Bank Branches

Those opting for in-person registration can visit authorized bank branches from April 15, 2026, on a first-come, first-served basis. Pilgrims must present their CHC, issued by an authorized physician, and a valid identity document such as Aadhaar. Biometric authentication will be conducted instantly using the eKYC system at these branches to verify identities and ensure security.

Mandatory RFID Card for Entry

A critical requirement for the 2026 Yatra is the mandatory RFID card. After registration, all pilgrims must collect this card from specified centers in Jammu and Kashmir following eKYC biometric verification. Without the RFID card, entry through key checkpoints like Domail or Chandanwari will be denied, emphasizing the board's focus on safety and tracking during the pilgrimage.

Eligibility Criteria and Health Requirements

The eligibility criteria remain unchanged for 2026. Participants must be aged between 13 and 70 years. Pregnant women beyond six weeks of gestation are not permitted to undertake the Yatra. Each pilgrim must obtain a CHC from a doctor or clinic authorized by the SASB, underscoring the importance of physical fitness for the challenging terrain.

Routes and Travel Options for Pilgrims

The Amarnath Yatra offers two main routes:

  • The Pahalgam Route: This traditional path covers approximately 46 kilometres one way and is favored for its gradual ascent, suitable for those seeking a more leisurely journey.
  • The Baltal Route: A shorter but steeper option spanning around 14 kilometres one way, often chosen for quicker access to the shrine.

For added convenience, helicopter services are available from both Pahalgam and Baltal to Panchtarni, catering to pilgrims who may find the trek physically demanding.

Facilities, Safety Measures, and Weather Warnings

To support pilgrims, facilities such as tents, lodging houses, and government-provided amenities are available at various halting points along the routes. The SASB has implemented stringent security protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure safety. Given the region's harsh and unpredictable climate, pilgrims are advised to prepare adequately with appropriate clothing and maintain good physical stamina to cope with the demanding conditions.

The Amarnath Yatra continues to be a profound spiritual journey, blending devotion with meticulous planning to offer a memorable experience for all devotees in 2026.
