Ambala's Shaheedi Memorial Approaches Completion with Strict Quality Directives
The Shaheedi Memorial, a major war memorial dedicated to the fallen heroes of the independence movement in Ambala, has entered its final stages of construction. Senior officials have ordered a high-standard finish in preparation for an expected ministerial inauguration, emphasizing no compromises on quality.
On-Site Review and Key Directives for Final Phase
During an on-site review on Tuesday, K Makarand Pandurang, Haryana's director general of information and public relations, issued strict directives to executing agencies to ensure the project meets international quality standards. Located on the Ambala-Delhi national highway, the memorial is designed to serve as a landmark cultural hub and an inspiration for the younger generation.
Key focus areas for the final phase include:
- Infrastructure Integrity: Third-party inspections of all electrical and sewerage systems to ensure compliance.
- Monsoon Readiness: Precise ground levelling and manhole alignment to prevent waterlogging during the upcoming rainy season.
- Highway Coordination: Coordination with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to manage cleanliness and landscaping near the main entrance.
Amenities and Art Installations Nearing Completion
The sprawling complex is set to feature more than just commemorative monuments. Key components nearing completion that Pandurang inspected include:
- Auditorium: A review of seating and sound arrangements is in progress to ensure the venue is ready for large-scale public events.
- Commercial Zone: Finishing touches are being applied to a dedicated food court and shopping complex within the memorial grounds.
Additionally, Pandurang reviewed the progress of various artwork installations intended to depict the historical struggle for independence, enhancing the memorial's educational and cultural value.
Pre-Inauguration Timeline and Official Statements
The push for completion comes as the state prepares for a high-profile visit. Haryana's chief minister is expected to conduct a final site inspection shortly before the memorial's formal opening. Pandurang told officials, "No compromise on quality will be tolerated," urging agencies to expedite minor pending works before the next scheduled review.
Harpal Singh, superintending engineer from the public works department, confirmed that all agencies were working in coordination to meet the state's stipulated timelines, ensuring a timely and high-quality inauguration.
