Assam Philatelist Arunendu Acharjee Gears Up for National-Level Exhibition
Arunendu Acharjee, an amateur philatelist from Gauripur town in Assam's Dhubri district, is diligently preparing for a prestigious national-level philately contest scheduled to be held in New Delhi this year. This follows his consistent success in various regional-level competitions over the past years, showcasing his dedication to the hobby of stamp collecting.
A Journey in Philately: From Humble Beginnings to National Recognition
Acharjee, now 46 years old, began his philatelic journey in 1995, cultivating a passion for collecting postal stamps. His first public exhibition took place in 2003, marking the beginning of his public engagement with the philately community. The following year, in 2004, he participated in another exhibition organized by the Goalpara divisional postal department in Dhubri, further establishing his presence in regional circles.
His efforts bore fruit with significant achievements at the Assam Circle Philately Exhibition, where he secured a silver medal in 2019 and a bronze medal in 2022. Beyond Assam, Acharjee has actively participated in exhibitions and contests across multiple Indian states, including Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, West Bengal, and Jammu & Kashmir, broadening his experience and network.
International Acclaim and Patriotic Contributions
In 2021, Acharjee's expertise earned him a Silver Medal at a philately contest in Bangladesh, highlighting his international recognition. Demonstrating a deep sense of patriotism, on November 28, 2025, he donated a collection of Indian Air Force-related stamps and coins, focusing on the Kargil War and military history, to the Red Horns Division. This act underscores his commitment to preserving and sharing historical narratives through philately.
Preparation for the National Stage and Future Plans
In an interview, Acharjee revealed that he developed an early habit of preserving newspaper clippings related to the Indian Army, which complemented his stamp collection. Currently, he is intensively preparing for the national-level philately exhibition and contest, employing innovative methods to captivate viewers. He is assembling a 20-sheet album on Operation Sindoor, which he plans to present to the Eastern Command headquarters in Kolkata soon, aiming to blend historical significance with philatelic artistry.
Local residents in Gauripur have expressed pride in Acharjee's accomplishments, noting that his hobby of philately and newspaper cutting has brought laurels to their town. His journey from a regional enthusiast to a contender on the national stage serves as an inspiration to many, emphasizing the cultural and educational value of philately in preserving history and fostering community pride.
