Belagavi Honors Social Reformer Jyotirao Phule on 200th Birth Anniversary
The 200th birth anniversary of the esteemed social reformer Jyotirao Phule was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Dr BR Ambedkar Park in Belagavi on Saturday. This significant event also paid tribute to the remarkable contributions of Savitribai Phule, a pioneering figure in the fight for women's education in India.
Commemorating a Legacy of Social Equality
Inaugurating the program, Udayakumar Talwar, the assistant commissioner of Belagavi City Corporation, delivered a poignant address. He emphasized that Savitribai Phule's relentless struggle for women's education, which began in 1848, paved the way for countless women to access schooling. Talwar noted that her efforts not only created widespread awareness about the value of education among subsequent generations but also led to the realization of her vision. Today, women are achieving on par with men in numerous fields, a testament to her enduring impact.

Dalit leader Mallesh Chougala spoke about Jyotirao Phule's dedication to social equality through the Satya Shodhak Samaj. He highlighted how Phule challenged deep-rooted social barriers by actively promoting girls' education, a revolutionary act in his time. Chougala stated that the 200th birth anniversary serves as a powerful inspiration to all, reminding society of the ongoing need to strive for equality and justice.
