Young Scholar Achieves Remarkable Feat with Bhagavad Gita Mastery

In an extraordinary display of dedication and intellect, a 10-year-old boy from Hebri in Udupi district has accomplished a feat that eludes most adults: memorizing the entire Bhagavad Gita and handwriting it 18 times across four different languages. Adhwaith R, a class 5 student at Purnapramati School in Girinagar, Bengaluru, originates from Chara village in Udupi district, where his passion for spiritual literature has blossomed into a remarkable achievement.

Early Beginnings and Rapid Progress

Adhwaith, a Sanskrit student with a profound interest in Indian scriptures, began his journey with the Bhagavad Gita at the tender age of 6. His father, Raghavendra, who runs a tea shop near Padmanabhanagar in Bengaluru alongside his wife Sangeetha, noted that Adhwaith picked up the sacred text "quickly compared to other children" and had mastered it by class 4. Over approximately 2.5 years, he dedicated himself to memorizing the entire text, writing around 25 shlokas daily as part of his rigorous practice.

Multilingual Handwriting Accomplishment

Between October 2024 and September 2025, Adhwaith completed 14 handwritten books of the Bhagavad Gita in Kannada, Sanskrit, English, and Hindi. This effort brought his total to 18 handwritten versions of the scripture, a testament to his unwavering commitment. His father, Raghavendra, shared that Adhwaith's interest was nurtured by his teacher, Rakesh Mirji, whose guidance played a pivotal role in his development. Additionally, Adhwaith supplemented his learning through YouTube channels, demonstrating a modern approach to traditional study.

Overcoming Early Challenges and Expanding Horizons

Remarkably, Adhwaith did not speak until the age of 3, but he has since immersed himself completely in learning scriptures by heart. In 2024, he appeared for an examination on the Bhagavad Gita before Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt during the seer's Chaturmasa programme in Chennai, further solidifying his expertise. Beyond the Bhagavad Gita, Adhwaith has written the Vishnu Sahasranama 18 times. Following advice from Sri Raghaveshwara Bharati Swamiji of Ramachandrapura Mutt, he set a goal of writing it 72 times and is expected to complete 36 writings by this summer.

Additional Spiritual and Artistic Pursuits

Adhwaith's talents extend beyond memorization and writing. He has learned two ‘sandhis’ of Sri Hari Kathamruta Sara, a text considered difficult even for adults, along with the Sampoorna Ramayana. He memorized the Hanuman Chalisa at the age of 5, showcasing his early aptitude for spiritual literature. In recognition of his dedication, he was honored by Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji as part of the Vishwa Gita Paryaya programme. Adhwaith is also a Yakshagana artist and a disciple of Raveesh Hegde Ainbail, blending cultural artistry with his scholarly pursuits. His father, a follower of spiritual thinker Bannanje Govindacharya, has been a significant source of encouragement in his journey to learn the scriptures.
