Buntara Bhavan Construction Launches in Madikeri with Rs 12 Crore Investment
The long-awaited vision of establishing a dedicated Buntara Bhavan for the Bunts community in Kodagu is finally progressing from dream to reality. In a significant development, the Kodagu Bunts Bhavan Trust, in collaboration with the Kodagu Bunts Association, has finalized plans to erect a state-of-the-art, fully equipped building on Rao Bahadur Ramaiah Poonja Road, commonly known as Abbi Falls Road, in Madikeri.
This ambitious project carries an estimated budget of Rs 12 crore, marking a major investment in community infrastructure. According to Jagadish Rai, president of the Kodagu Bunts Association, a comprehensive blueprint has already been meticulously prepared, setting the stage for the upcoming construction phase.
Foundation Stone Ceremony and Dignitary Participation
The foundation stone for Buntara Bhavan is scheduled to be laid on May 1, in a ceremony that will witness the presence of numerous esteemed dignitaries. The event will be inaugurated by Madikeri MLA Manthar Gowda, who will officially kickstart the construction work. Adding to the significance of the occasion, Virajpet MLA AS Ponnanna and Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar are confirmed attendees, ensuring strong political support for the initiative.

Furthermore, the programme will see participation from other notable figures, including Mangaluru MP Brijesh Chauta, Kodagu MLC Suja Kushalappa, and Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai, underscoring widespread community and political endorsement.
Historical Land Donation and Community Legacy
The land for this landmark construction was generously donated by the late BT Premnath Poonja of Madikeri, who served as the founder-president of the Kodagu Bunts Bhavan Trust. His contribution of 0.5 acres, equivalent to 52 cents, has been instrumental in paving the way for this project, honoring his legacy and commitment to the Bunts community.
This initiative represents a culmination of years of planning and community efforts, aimed at providing a modern hub for social, cultural, and administrative activities. The Buntara Bhavan is expected to serve as a focal point for the Bunts in Kodagu, fostering unity and preserving traditions while offering contemporary amenities.
With construction set to commence, the project promises to enhance local infrastructure and contribute to the socio-economic fabric of Madikeri, reflecting a blend of heritage and progress.
