The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) is set to organize a three-day Raja Mahotsav in Cuttack, situated on the banks of the Mahanadi River, commencing June 14. This event promises a vibrant fusion of Odisha's rich cultural heritage, literature, art, and traditions, with a special focus on highlighting the lives and achievements of prominent Odia women.
Celebrating Raja Parba and Womanhood
The festival aims to celebrate Odisha's traditional Raja Parba, a festival honoring womanhood, and will feature a wide array of activities tailored for women, children, and families. CMC Mayor Subhash Singh stated, "The festival has been designed as a platform to promote Odisha’s cultural heritage while creating awareness on contemporary social issues."
Thematic Zones and Attractions
The venue will be divided into five thematic zones. Visitors can enjoy traditional Raja decorations, complimentary alata and mehendi application, face art, and nail art sessions. Dedicated food zones will offer cakes, beverages, and a variety of traditional delicacies. One of the major attractions will be an exhibition showcasing the lives and contributions of eminent women of Odisha, including Nandini Satpathy, Ramadevi, Malati Choudhury, Kuntala Kumari Sabat, Tulasi Munda, and President Droupadi Murmu.
Singh added, "Raja is one of Odisha’s most cherished festivals. Through this Mahotsav, we want to create a space where culture, creativity, and community participation come together. Citizens of all age groups will find something meaningful and enjoyable here."
Saraswat Zone and Educational Workshops
A separate Saraswat zone will feature books by women writers, reading spaces, poetry recitations, storytelling sessions, and interactions between authors and readers, as informed by CMC Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota. An art gallery and workshop area for schoolchildren will host live art demonstrations, craft activities, and tote bag painting sessions. Workshops on cyber security, financial literacy, mental health, artificial intelligence, and robotics will also be organized during the festival.
Kaur emphasized, "The event would serve as a platform for learning and empowerment alongside celebration. The festival has been curated to promote cultural traditions while encouraging discussions on issues relevant to today’s society. We expect it to become a memorable experience for participants and visitors alike."
Event Schedule and Cultural Performances
The festival will be held daily from 10 am to 8 pm and will conclude with cultural performances by local artists and troupes every evening.
