Significance of Somnath Swabhiman Parv

The year-long Somnath Swabhiman Parv 2026 began in January to commemorate 1,000 years since Mahmud of Ghazni first attacked the Somnath Temple in 1026. The celebration honors the resilience, faith, and civilizational continuity of India. Additionally, the year 2026 marks 75 years since the present Somnath Temple was reopened to devotees on May 11, 1951, following India's independence. These two milestones form the foundation of the celebration.

Through cultural, spiritual, and educational engagements, the Somnath Swabhiman Parv aims to reconnect contemporary society with its heritage. It reminds each generation that Somnath endures not only through its stone and spire but through the conscious transmission of values, stories, and responsibility.
