DMK MP Kanimozhi Champions Literature as a Unifying Force at Chennai Book Fair
DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi delivered a powerful message on Friday at the inauguration of the 4th Chennai International Book Fair. She emphasized literature's unique ability to break down societal barriers built on religion, race, and caste.
"Literature makes us believe that whatever happens in this world, there is always something to love," Kanimozhi stated. She described this belief as a precious gift writers offer to humanity.
Book Fair as a Platform for Global Inspiration
The Chennai International Book Fair provides a vital opportunity, according to Kanimozhi. It allows readers to explore writings from diverse global perspectives. This exposure can inspire personal lives and strengthen collective struggles.
"Our fight is to preserve who we are, our identity, to come together as one," she explained. Kanimozhi firmly believes the world's true identity lies in its beautiful diversity and underlying unity.
Empowering Women in Arts and Literature
During a panel discussion, Kanimozhi turned her focus to women's ongoing battles in arts, literature, and cinema. She acknowledged these struggles but framed them as sources of strength.
"Women are struggling and battling, and it is making us stronger. That will be our launchpad," she asserted. Kanimozhi stressed that society often fails to create this essential platform for women. Therefore, women must actively network, identify exclusionary gaps, and become each other's pillars of support.
Global Recognition for Tamil and South Indian Literary Voices
School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi highlighted significant international interest in regional literature. He noted that global publishers are increasingly attentive to South Indian and Tamil literary voices.
A remarkable publishing trend has emerged over the past three years. More than 200 Indian authors have seen their works published in over 50 international languages. Impressively, 90 of these authors were Tamil writers, showcasing the global reach of Tamil literature.
