Mangaluru: The sacred Mahamastakabhisheka ceremony for the revered 42-foot statue of Bhagavan Sri Bahubali Swami in Karkala has been officially scheduled for February 2027. This announcement was made by Bhagavan Sri Bahubali Swami Mahamastakabhisheka Samiti working president MN Rajendra Kumar on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in the preparations for this grand Jain religious event.
Historic Significance and Preparations Underway
The magnificent 42-foot statue, which was originally installed in 1432 AD by Pandya Raja of the Bhairavasara lineage following ancient religious rituals inspired by sages, has witnessed Mahamastakabhisheka ceremonies in 1954, 1990, 2002, and most recently in 2015. The upcoming 2027 event represents the continuation of this sacred tradition that spans centuries.
MN Rajendra Kumar emphasized that the event will be organized through close cooperation between the government, the organizing committee, and the broader community. Beyond its religious significance, the festival aims to spread Lord Bahubali's timeless message of non-violence, sacrifice, truth, peace, and righteousness while incorporating substantial public welfare projects.
