Kedarnath Dham Reopens After Winter Break with Chief Minister in Attendance

The sacred portals of Kedarnath Dham in Uttarakhand reopened on Wednesday morning after a six-month winter closure, with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expected to attend the auspicious ceremony. The doors swung open around 8 am, marking the commencement of the annual pilgrimage season that draws devotees from across India and abroad.

Massive Pilgrim Influx and Security Preparations

Authorities reported that a substantial number of pilgrims had already arrived in Kedarnath to participate in the opening rituals, anticipating a large turnout throughout the season. In response, police and district administration have significantly tightened security measures across the region.

Security deployments include personnel stationed along the entire pilgrimage route and within the Dham area to ensure safety and order. The Rudraprayag district administration has implemented comprehensive arrangements to facilitate the smooth movement and comfort of devotees.

Comprehensive Infrastructure and Amenities for Pilgrims

Extensive preparations have been made to support the influx of visitors, with a focus on infrastructure and essential services. Key initiatives include:

  • Road repairs and enhanced traffic management systems along the trekking routes.
  • Provision of toilets, accommodation facilities, and reliable food and drinking water supplies.
  • Ensured electricity and solar lighting to maintain visibility and safety during night hours.
  • Medical relief posts established by the health department at regular intervals of 2 kilometers.

Tourism Secretary Dhiraaj Singh Garbyal emphasized additional comforts, stating, “Arrangements have also been made to provide hot water to devotees at Lincholi and Kedarnath.” These efforts aim to enhance the pilgrimage experience while addressing practical needs.

Record Pilgrim Numbers and Online Registrations

In recent years, Kedarnath has emerged as the most visited among the four Char Dham shrines, consistently recording the highest pilgrim footfall and online registrations. This trend continues in the current season, with over 20 lakh bookings made for the Char Dham Yatra.

The distribution of registrations highlights Kedarnath's popularity:

  1. Kedarnath: Approximately 7 lakh bookings
  2. Badrinath: Around 5.9 lakh bookings
  3. Gangotri: About 3.5 lakh bookings
  4. Yamunotri: Roughly 3.4 lakh bookings

These figures underscore the shrine's significance and the widespread devotion it commands, driving robust tourism and spiritual activity in the region.
