NTR District Unveils Grand Heritage Celebrations with Kondapalli Toys Mela

In a significant move to promote cultural heritage, NTR district collector Dr G Lakshmisha has announced a series of events to mark World Heritage Day. The district administration, in collaboration with the tourist department, will organise a three-day Kondapalli Toys Mela from April 18 to 20 in Kondapalli, aimed at celebrating and preserving local traditions.

Heritage Walk and Musical Concert to Kick Off Festivities

Addressing the media on Friday, Lakshmisha detailed the plans, which commence with a heritage trek to Kondapalli Fort at 6 am on April 18. This will be followed by a Heritage Walk and Musical Concert in the city on the same day, coinciding with World Heritage Day. The heritage walk is being organised in partnership with the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), ensuring a focus on art and cultural preservation.

Additionally, sports activities are scheduled to engage the community, making the event a holistic celebration of heritage and fitness. The district collector emphasised the importance of public participation, urging citizens to support these initiatives for a vibrant cultural experience.

Prizes and Recognition for Toy-Making Excellence

As part of the Kondapalli Toys Mela, a toys-making competition will be held, with prizes worth Rs 1 lakh and certificates to be distributed to winners and participants. This initiative aims to encourage local artisans and highlight the craftsmanship associated with Kondapalli toys, which are renowned for their cultural significance.

Lakshmisha stated that the celebrations will conclude with a musical evening at an open ground near Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium. Popular singers SP Charan and Sunitha are expected to perform, adding a lively cultural dimension to the event. The administration also plans to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to heritage preservation, recognising their efforts in safeguarding cultural assets.

Plans for Annual Heritage Celebrations

Looking ahead, the district collector revealed that the administration is considering making these heritage celebrations an annual feature. This move is intended to ensure sustained awareness and engagement around cultural preservation, fostering long-term community involvement in heritage activities.
