Kondapalli Toys Mela Evokes Strong Response, Highlights 400-Year Craft Legacy
The ongoing three-day Kondapalli Toys Mela at Kondapalli in NTR district has been drawing enthusiastic crowds, with stalls bustling with activity, particularly on Sunday. Organized by the NTR district administration in collaboration with the tourism department, this festival is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich, 400-year-old tradition of Kondapalli handicrafts.
Mega Heritage Carnival Features Diverse Folk Performances
A key highlight of the event's second day was the Mega Heritage Carnival, which brought together approximately 250 artists and traditional artisans to display their skills. Visitors enjoyed a vibrant array of folk performances, including Dappu, Puliveshalu, Tappetagullu, Thinsa, Garagalu, and Keelu Gurralu, contributing to a lively and festive ambiance at the venue.
Officials Emphasize Revival and Global Promotion of Kondapalli Toys
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), who attended the festival, emphasized its dual purpose: reviving the ancient Kondapalli toy craft and creating improved livelihood opportunities for artisans. He highlighted ongoing efforts to safeguard this cultural heritage for future generations.
Additionally, the MP pointed out the tourism potential of the region, noting that the government is formulating a focused plan to develop Kondapalli Fort into a major attraction, leveraging its strategic proximity to the capital area.
Plans for Enhanced Tourist Appeal and Global Branding
Mylavaram MLA Vasantha Venkata Krishna Prasad described Kondapalli toys as a symbol of cultural pride and stated that the festival aims to elevate this legacy to a global platform. He also announced intentions to introduce a laser show at the historic fort to boost its tourist appeal further.
AP State Creative and Culture Commission chairperson Tejaswi Podapati added that the three-day Kondapalli Toys Mela aligns with the government's vision of branding Kondapalli toys as a global heritage product. To support this, a dedicated experience centre has been established, offering visitors an immersive understanding of the craft and its historical significance.
