Lucknow's Bougainvillea Festival Inaugurated with Floral Grandeur at NBRI
The National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) in Lucknow witnessed a spectacular opening of its two-day Bougainvillea Festival on Saturday, as colorful blooms and a lively atmosphere drew large crowds of visitors eager to explore the floral displays and engage in gardening activities.
Festival Inauguration and Distinguished Guests
The festival, scheduled for March 14 and 15 at the institute's botanical garden, was formally inaugurated by NKS Chauhan, Officer on Special Duty in the Chief Minister's Office. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh, Director of the National Institute of Oceanography in Goa, adding a touch of academic prestige to the event.
Popular Appeal and Visitor Engagement
NBRI Director A.K. Shasany highlighted the festival's widespread popularity, noting that it attracts gardeners, students, and researchers alike. "Visitors and gardening enthusiasts flock to the festival to admire the flower displays, interact with horticultural experts, and capture photographs," Shasany explained. "Many also seek valuable advice on plant maintenance and terrace gardening techniques, making it an educational experience."
Exhibitors and Competition Categories
Festival Convener K.J. Singh reported robust participation this year, with 64 exhibitors showcasing their work. The event features 209 entries across 20 diverse competition categories, involving individuals as well as government and private organizations, fostering a spirit of community and creativity.
Floral Diversity and Conservation Efforts
Attendees are treated to a stunning array of more than 300 bougainvillea varieties conserved by NBRI, displaying a wide spectrum of colors and intricate patterns. This exhibition not only delights the senses but also underscores the institute's commitment to botanical preservation and research.
Festival Schedule and Concluding Events
The festival is open to the public from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM, offering ample time for exploration. It will conclude on Sunday with a prize distribution ceremony, where Chief Guest Governor Anandiben Patel will honor the winners, adding a celebratory note to the floral festivities.
