Lucknow Churches Observe Palm Sunday with Solemn Devotion
Marking the commencement of the Holy Week, Palm Sunday was observed with deep devotion and solemnity across numerous churches in Lucknow on Sunday. Devotees, dressed in green attire, gathered in substantial numbers to commemorate the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, where he was welcomed by crowds with palm leaf branches and shouts of 'Hosanna', symbolising victory and peace.
Symbolism and Celebrations in Daliganj
At the Assembly of Believers Church in Daliganj, the day held profound significance. Parag Wesley, the Priest in charge, explained, "It also signifies the humility of Jesus Christ as he rode on a donkey, and palm branches represent victory, peace, and eternal life, reminding us of Christ's ultimate sacrifice and triumph over death." Devotees carried palm leaves, embodying these themes of peace and victory, while hymns filled the air as priests led the faithful in readings and sermons focusing on faith, humility, and sacrifice.
Worshippers assembled since early morning for the blessing of palms, followed by a procession around the church premises. Mitchell David, a devotee attending the service, shared, "Palm Sunday reminds us to welcome goodness and compassion into our lives." The congregation sang hymns such as 'Hosanna the highest' and 'Blessed is he who comes' while waving palm leaves. Additionally, devotees exchanged green goodies, and refreshments like grapes, green beverages, and green tea cakes were served, adding a festive touch to the solemn occasion.
Similar Observances Across the City

He emphasized the importance of unity and peace, urging attendees to carry forward teachings of love and kindness in their daily lives. The event concluded with children presenting a skit depicting Jesus's triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
