Lucknow Temples Adorned for Chaitra Navratri, Marking Hindu New Year
Temples across Lucknow are being decked out in vibrant decorations as the city prepares for the nine-day festival of Chaitra Navratri, which commences on Thursday. This auspicious period also heralds the beginning of the Hindu lunar new year, known as Vikram Samvat, prompting special arrangements to accommodate the influx of devotees expected to participate in the celebrations.
Elaborate Rituals and Decorations Across Key Temples
During Navratri, the nine forms of goddess Durga will be worshipped on each day, with the ninth day particularly significant as it marks the birth of Lord Ram. At the Sandohan Devi temple in Chaupatiya, a unique tradition will be observed: the deity will be seated on a different vaahan (vehicle) each day of the festival, as detailed by temple coordinator Anoop Verma.
Meanwhile, the Kali Bari temple in Ghasiyari Mandi is set to showcase the goddess adorned in exquisite silk Kanjivaram and Banarasi sarees, complemented by a resplendent gold crown. Gautam Bhattacharya, president of the temple's management committee, emphasized the meticulous preparations aimed at enhancing the spiritual experience for worshippers.
Festive Fairs and Decorative Splendor
Adding to the festive atmosphere, fairs will be organized at the Chandrika Devi temple and Badi Kaliji temple. The Chandrika Devi temple has been transformed with vibrant red roses, and the shrine will open its doors to devotees at 5 pm daily. In contrast, the Badi Kaliji temple boasts a stunning display featuring multi-colored curtains, a blend of organic and artificial flowers, and dazzling lights, creating a mesmerizing ambiance for visitors.
These efforts reflect the community's dedication to honoring this sacred time, blending traditional rituals with elaborate aesthetics to foster a profound sense of devotion and celebration among all participants.
