Magh Mela 2026 Preparations on Track for Jan 3 Start

With the grand spiritual congregation of Magh Mela-2026 scheduled to commence on January 3, the administrative machinery in Prayagraj is in its final sprint. Authorities have announced that the majority of preparatory projects are complete, with a firm deadline set for wrapping up all remaining work by December 20.

Infrastructure Projects in Final Stages

Key departments involved in the massive logistical exercise, including Police, Power, Jal Nigam, and Public Works Department (PWD), have reported substantial completion of their assigned tasks. The focus has now shifted to last-mile finishing work at several critical locations.

Areas such as Acharya Bada, Dandibada, and Khakchauk, along with the Old GT Road, are seeing accelerated activity. Mela authorities have expressed confidence that work in these zones will be finalized by this Saturday. To ensure timely completion, officials have ramped up manpower, increased work shifts, and deployed additional resources.

High-Level Reviews and On-Site Inspections

Senior district and mela administration officials conducted thorough on-ground inspections over Tuesday and Wednesday. The review covered a wide spectrum of essential services and infrastructure.

The inspection teams assessed the progress of:

  • Land levelling and road construction using chequered plates.
  • Electrification work, including the laying of High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) power lines.
  • Water supply and sewer line installation projects.
  • Construction and erosion control measures at the river ghats.

A specific review was also conducted for an innovative system using geotubes to treat drain water in front of the Nagavasuki Temple, highlighting the focus on environmental management.

Tent City Takes Shape as Land Allocation Concludes

The iconic tent city, a hallmark of the mela, is rapidly emerging across all seven sectors of the mela ground. The process of allocating land to various akharas, religious groups, and service providers is actively underway and is slated for completion by the December 20 deadline.

With the final countdown underway, the Prayagraj administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the Magh Mela 2026 begins smoothly, providing millions of devotees with a safe, well-organized, and spiritually fulfilling experience.
