Maha Shivratri Illuminates Kolhan Division with Grand Religious Observances

All three districts of the Kolhan division were immersed in profound religious devotion on Sunday as countless devotees celebrated Maha Shivratri with exceptional pomp and spiritual enthusiasm. The faithful congregated at beautifully decorated Shiva temples from the early morning hours to offer special prayers and seek divine blessings for robust health and enduring prosperity.

Sacred Rituals and Traditional Offerings

Amid resonant chants of Om Namah Shivay and Har Har Mahadev, priests meticulously performed the sacred rudrabhishekam ritual in strict accordance with ancient Vedic scriptures, while the continuous ringing of sacred bells created an atmosphere of deep reverence. Devotees presented traditional offerings to the lingam, including:

  • Curd and ghee
  • Gangajal (sacred Ganga water)
  • Water and sandal paste
  • Panchamrit (a mixture of five foods)

The air was filled with the fragrance of burning camphor and incense sticks as worshippers expressed their devotion through these time-honored practices.

Major Temple Gatherings Across the Region

The Mahadevsal temple in Chakradharpur sub-division of West Singhbhum district witnessed an exceptionally large turnout of festive enthusiasts. Temple committee member Sanjay Singh explained, "This shrine is renowned as the Chota Baidyanath dham of the state, attracting substantial crowds during Shivratri. Devotees travel from distant locations within the district and neighboring Odisha to offer their prayers here."

In the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district, the Jayda Shiv temple in Chandil also experienced strong devotional participation, with worshippers arriving from various parts of Jamshedpur and Seraikela town.

East Singhbhum district showcased remarkable attendance at multiple temples including:

  1. Chitreswardham temple in Baharagora
  2. Siddheshwar temple in Jaduguda

Special Rituals and Evening Congregations

At the Andhra Bhakt Shree Ram Mandiram in Bistupur, organizers conducted the Ajhyabhishekam of Lord Venkateswara on this auspicious occasion. Temple committee general secretary Jammi Bhaskar noted, "The Ajhyabhishekam is a sacred ritual performed to seek liberation from all diseases and attain excellent health. Remarkably, this marks the first time we have organized this ceremony in the temple's century-long history."

Further enhancing the day's spiritual atmosphere, a social organization hosted a grand Maha aarti ceremony along the banks of the Domuhani river during the evening hours, drawing a substantial congregation of enthusiastic participants.

Comprehensive Security Arrangements

Meanwhile, district police authorities implemented thorough security measures at all major temples and along access roads to ensure complete safety for the large gatherings. These precautionary arrangements helped maintain orderly celebrations throughout the region.
