Gudi Padwa 2024: Maharashtra Cities Implement Strict Measures for Festive Celebrations

As Maharashtra prepares to celebrate Gudi Padwa, the Marathi New Year, on Thursday, authorities across key cities are deploying comprehensive arrangements to manage the anticipated large-scale festivities. In Nashik, Kolhapur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, police and municipal bodies are taking proactive steps to ensure smooth celebrations amidst concerns over traffic congestion and public safety.

Nashik Police Enforce Traffic Diversions for Processions

The Nashik police have announced strict bandobust (security arrangements) to prevent traffic jams and untoward incidents during the numerous Gudi Padwa processions scheduled for Thursday. From early morning, citizens are expected to dress in special attire and participate in various new year processions across the city.

Key traffic restrictions will be implemented on the Nashik-Trimbak Road due to religious programs, including the Bhavani Mata fair and the traditional event of pulling 12 bullock carts without bullocks. This annual gathering attracts a large number of devotees, often leading to significant congestion.

The police will prohibit vehicles in both directions on the Nashik-Trimbak Road between Sakal Circle and Mahindra Circle from noon to 10 pm. All traffic will be diverted via alternative routes including Sakal Circle, Achanak Chowk, MSEDCL Office, Nashik Oxygen Company, and Papaya Nursery. Exceptions will be made for emergency vehicles such as police cars, ambulances, and fire brigade units.

Senior officers have instructed all police station in-charges across the city to maintain robust bandobust in their jurisdictions to avoid any incidents. This coordinated effort aims to balance festive joy with public order and safety.

Kolhapur Markets and Schools Bustle with Festive Preparations

In Kolhapur, the festive spirit is evident as markets are adorned with bamboo sticks, sugar garlands, fruits, floral decorations, puja essentials, and mini Gudi sticks. Beyond decorations, Gudi Padwa marks an auspicious time for new beginnings, influencing various sectors.

School admissions for pre-school and first grade have commenced, with some municipal schools initiating advance bookings. Pooja Jadhav, a parent from Mangalwar Peth, shared, "After visiting over 5 preschools in city areas, we have finalized a kindergarten for my two-and-a-half-year-old son. We will complete his admission on Thursday, as Gudi Padwa is considered an auspicious occasion to start something new."

The festival is also expected to drive significant economic activity. The real estate, automobile, electronics, and gold jewellery markets in Kolhapur are anticipating a huge turnover, with various discount schemes launched to attract customers eager to make purchases on this propitious day.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Embraces Traditional Celebrations

In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, households are preparing to raise Gudi (traditional flags) and perform pooja in their homes to celebrate the festival. Similar to Kolhapur, the city is likely to witness a surge in sales of automobiles, electronics, and gadgets, as residents take advantage of the festive mood to make new purchases.

The collective efforts across these Maharashtra cities highlight the cultural significance of Gudi Padwa, blending tradition with modern logistical planning to ensure a safe and joyous celebration for all residents.
