Mandya Official Honors Shivaji's Legacy, Urges Youth to Emulate His Values
In a stirring address at the Shivaji Jayanti celebrations in Mandya, Additional Deputy Commissioner BC Shivananda Murthy reflected on the historical significance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's birth. He emphasized that the great Maratha leader was born during a period when Indian art, literature, and culture faced severe threats from repeated foreign invasions.
Celebrating a Visionary Leader
The event was inaugurated by Murthy at the Nalvadi Shri Krishnaraja Wadiyar Kalamandira Library Hall. It was organized by the District Administration in collaboration with the Department of Kannada and Culture. Addressing a gathering that included members of the Maratha community, Murthy provided a detailed account of Shivaji's early life and upbringing.
"Shivaji Maharaj was born in 1630 in Maharashtra," Murthy noted. "He received systematic training in administration and warfare under the guidance of his mentor, Dadaji Kondadev." The official highlighted how Shivaji's mother, Jijabai, played a pivotal role in shaping his character from a young age.
Foundations of Leadership and Dharma
"From his earliest years, Shivaji was deeply influenced by his mother, who instilled in him the ideals of courage, justice, and dharma," Murthy explained. "These core values ultimately molded him into a visionary and exceptionally disciplined leader." Despite being the son of a regional chieftain, Shivaji rose to establish a robust and independent Maratha kingdom.
Murthy elaborated on Shivaji's enduring legacy, pointing to his remarkable administrative acumen, progressive policies, and innovative guerrilla warfare tactics. These qualities enabled him to challenge larger forces and secure his realm.
A Call to the Younger Generation
In his concluding remarks, the additional DC issued a heartfelt appeal to the youth. He urged the younger generation to actively imbibe Shivaji's qualities, such as:

- Commitment to justice and ethical governance
- Strategic innovation in problem-solving
- Deep respect for cultural heritage and dharma
