Marking International Museum Day on Monday, around 60 students from Montfort School displayed their artistic talents at a programme organized by the 1857 Memorial Museum at the Residency in Lucknow. The event, held under the theme ‘Museums Uniting a Divided World’, saw students create artworks on subjects such as ‘Our Museum Our Pride’ and ‘Historic Heritage of India’.
Educational Insights and Creative Expression
Archaeologist Nidhi Verma briefed the students on the history of the Residency, providing them with a deeper understanding of the site’s significance. Sarah Rahman, who won the first prize in the painting competition, shared her experience: “I enjoyed a lot and got to learn many unknown facts about the Residency.” Another participant, Avisha Sachan, remarked, “I enjoyed watching the old monuments.”
Prize Winners and Guest Speakers
Aditri Singh secured the second prize, while the third prize was awarded to Ishita Srivastava. The chief guest, Prof. Amar Singh from Lucknow University’s ancient Indian history department, urged students to remain connected with their cultural heritage and history.
The UP State Archaeology Directorate (UPSAD), in collaboration with Lucknow University, organized an exhibition showcasing nearly 45 photographs of protected monuments. UPSAD director Renu Dwivedi emphasized that museums play an important role in preserving antiquities. Chief guest S.N. Kapoor noted that museums serve as a vital medium for conserving historical heritage and connecting the younger generation with the past.
