Nashik's 'Clean Kumbh 2027' Initiative Kicks Off with Major Cleanliness Drive at Godavari Source
In a significant step towards environmental conservation, the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) launched the ambitious 'Clean Kumbh 2027' initiative on Sunday. The launch was marked by a massive cleanliness drive titled 'Swachh Brahmagiri Abhiyan' at the ecologically sensitive Brahmagiri Hills in Trimbakeshwar, the revered origin point of the Godavari river.
Massive Plastic Waste Collection Effort
The drive resulted in the collection of an impressive 980 kilograms of plastic waste from the area surrounding the Godavari's source. This effort, timed to coincide with World Water Day, underscores the critical importance of protecting water sources and maintaining the sanctity of pilgrimage sites.

Strategic Vision for Sustainable Pilgrimage
NTKMA commissioner Shekhar Singh outlined the broader strategy behind the initiative. "The 'Clean Kumbh 2027' strategy aims to implement systematic waste management and awareness campaigns across the entire pilgrimage region in the coming months," he stated. The goal is to transform the Kumbh Mela into a model of sustainable pilgrimage by fostering environmental responsibility among both local residents and the millions of visitors expected for the 2027 event.
This initiative represents a proactive approach to addressing the environmental challenges associated with large-scale religious gatherings, setting a precedent for other pilgrimage sites across India and beyond.
