Visitors in Lucknow enjoyed a delightful experience at the two-day annual Rose and Gladiolus Show hosted by the CSIR–National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) on its lawns this Saturday. The event showcased a stunning array of beautiful, colourful, and unique varieties of roses and gladiolus in full bloom, creating a vibrant atmosphere for all attendees.
A Hub for Flower Enthusiasts and Learners
Regular visitors like Anirudh Chatterjee, a private banker, expressed their enthusiasm for the show. He noted that it offers more than just a visual treat of beautiful flowers; it also provides valuable opportunities to learn about plants and purchase them during the festival. This blend of aesthetic appeal and educational value makes the event a must-visit for gardening aficionados and curious minds alike.
Competitive Spirit and Diverse Participation
According to NBRI flower show convener K J Singh, the exhibition featured competitions across eight distinct classes, labeled A through H. These categories encompassed a wide range of entries, including cut flowers, specimen blooms, floral arrangements, potted plants, and photography. Singh highlighted that entries were received from various sources, such as government and semi-government departments, autonomous bodies, nurserymen, individual growers, gardeners, and women, showcasing the event's broad appeal and community involvement.
This year, the show saw an impressive turnout with 510 entries submitted by 73 exhibitors from Lucknow and beyond. This significant participation underscores the growing interest and support for botanical exhibitions in the region.
Educational and Technological Displays
Beyond the competitions, other attractions captivated visitors, including the ‘CSIR–NBRI Pavilion’. Here, cut flowers from the institute's extensive rose and gladiolus germplasm collection were on display, alongside technologies and herbal products developed by NBRI. This pavilion served as an educational hub, offering insights into the institute's research and innovations in plant science and herbal applications.
The annual Rose and Gladiolus Show not only celebrates the beauty of flowers but also fosters a deeper appreciation for botanical research and sustainable gardening practices, making it a key event in Lucknow's cultural and educational calendar.
