Patna's Ram Navami Celebrations Draw Massive Crowds at Key Temples
The city of Patna was immersed in spiritual fervor as lakhs of devotees gathered primarily at the historic Mahavir Mandir and the Panchrupi Hanuman Temple to celebrate Ram Navami. The religious festivities commenced in the early hours of Friday, with temple doors opening exceptionally early to accommodate the enormous influx of pilgrims seeking blessings on this auspicious day.
Unprecedented Devotee Turnout Despite Weather Challenges
At Mahavir Mandir, an estimated four lakh devotees offered prayers throughout the day, marking the largest gathering the temple has witnessed since 2019. Despite intermittent rainfall that could have dampened spirits, the enthusiasm remained remarkably high as chants of "Jai Shri Ram" and "Jai Jai Siya Ram" resonated powerfully across the temple premises. The scale of devotion was visibly evident in the extensive queues that formed, with lines for men stretching as far as the BPSC secretariat and queues for women extending up to the Patel Nagar Kali Mandir.
Elaborate Rituals and Ceremonial Observances
The celebrations featured intricate internal rituals that began shortly after midnight. At Mahavir Mandir, these included thorough cleaning of the sanctum and specialized prayers before public access was granted. The Panchrupi Hanuman Temple conducted a dedicated one-hour internal prayer session preceding its 3am public opening, eventually welcoming approximately 1.5 lakh devotees.
The ceremonial highlight occurred at Mahavir Mandir during "Prakatya", marking the precise birth hour of Lord Rama. This significant moment was commemorated with the unveiling of a portrait of Ram Lalla by temple trust secretary Sayan Kunal and justice Sanjay Kumar. The unveiling was accompanied by a shower of rose petals and the ceremonial replacement of all temple flags, followed by the sacred 'janm aarti'.
Substantial Religious Offerings and Decorative Enhancements
Mahavir Mandir reported the sale of over 22,500 kilograms of Naivedyam, including two special 51-kilogram offerings presented specifically to the idols of Hanuman. Similarly, at the Rajvanshi Nagar temple, priests offered 10 quintals of Naivedyam and 11 quintals of regular laddoos, culminating in a "Chhappan Bhog" offering featuring 56 distinct varieties.
The devotional atmosphere was further enriched by continuous singing of Sohar, aarti, and various congratulatory songs. Technical and aesthetic arrangements played a crucial role in enhancing the spiritual experience, with the Rajvanshi Nagar temple employing specialized laser lighting and elaborate floral decorations curated by skilled artisans from Kolkata.

Administrative and political figures remained actively present throughout the day to oversee arrangements and participate in the rituals. Notable visitors included BJP national president Nitin Nabin, deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, and JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, alongside several other ministers and legislators.
Mahavir Mandir management introduced a new tradition this year by honoring the first ten devotees to complete their darshan—seven men and three women—with sacred shawls and prasad as recognition of their devotion.

To ensure safety and comfort for the vast crowds, temple committees and district administration deployed numerous volunteers and security personnel while providing essential services including drinking water stations and medical aid facilities. The day's events concluded with a recognition ceremony for officials of the 52 tableaus that participated in citywide processions, acknowledging their contributions to the successful celebrations.
