PM Modi Hails Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum as Power Center Transforms into Cultural Hub
PM Modi: North & South Block Now Cultural Hub, Not Power Center

Prime Minister Modi Emphasizes Cultural Transformation of Historic Power Center

During a significant interaction on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the profound transformation of the iconic North and South Block from a traditional center of political power into a focal point for cultural preservation and education. The Prime Minister made these remarks while meeting with trustees of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), including Chairman Ram Bahadur Rai and Member Secretary Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, ahead of the institution's 39th Foundation Day celebrations.

Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum: A Monumental Cultural Initiative

The Prime Minister specifically cited the ambitious Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum project as a prime example of the government's commitment to cultural awareness. This museum, billed to become the largest in the world, is set to be housed within the historic North and South Block buildings in New Delhi. According to earlier reports, the first gallery of this monumental museum is scheduled to open by the end of this year in the North Block, with the entire project expected to be completed across all its galleries over the next three years.

Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi elaborated on the Prime Minister's comments, stating, "While speaking to us about the many initiatives the government has taken to create greater awareness about culture, the Prime Minister cited the example of the Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum project. He shared that it reflects the importance the government places on culture, as earlier the North and South blocks symbolised the seat of power, but that has changed now." Joshi further explained that the space has been repurposed for civilizational continuity, creating a museum where future generations can learn about India's rich and diverse cultural heritage.

Digital Outreach and Youth Engagement Strategies

In a post on social media platform X later on Thursday evening, Prime Minister Modi detailed the discussion, noting that they "discussed various aspects relating to further popularising India’s diverse culture." The conversation explored practical ways to broaden public engagement, including strengthening outreach through digital platforms and grassroots initiatives, as well as providing support to artists and scholars dedicated to preserving and promoting the nation's heritage.

The Prime Minister also underscored the critical need to build widespread awareness about India's history and heritage across the entire country. A particular emphasis was placed on engaging with youth in both urban and rural areas, ensuring that the younger generation connects with their cultural roots. The Ministry of Culture, in an official statement, noted that the PM stressed the importance of understanding Bharat through a feeling of 'Swa'—a concept denoting selfhood and intrinsic identity.

A Strategic Shift from Political Power to Cultural Legacy

This initiative marks a strategic and symbolic shift in the use of one of India's most recognizable administrative complexes. By converting the North and South Block—long synonymous with governance and political authority—into the Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum, the government is signaling a renewed priority on cultural preservation and public education. The project aims not only to showcase India's ancient and diverse cultural tapestry but also to make it accessible and engaging for citizens of all ages, particularly through modern digital means.

The meeting with IGNCA trustees thus served as a platform to reinforce the government's broader cultural agenda, aligning institutional efforts with national projects like the museum to foster a deeper, more widespread appreciation of India's historical and artistic legacy.
