Earlier Spiritual Engagements in Karnataka

Earlier on the same day, PM Modi visited Udupi in Karnataka where he began his spiritual journey with prayers at the renowned Sri Krishna Matha. The Matha, established over 800 years ago by Sri Madhvacharya, stands as one of the central institutions of the Dvaita Vedanta tradition.

The Prime Minister participated in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana, a mass recitation of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita that saw participation from approximately 100,000 devotees, including students, monks, and scholars. This massive gathering created an atmosphere of divine devotion and spiritual unity.

According to the Prime Minister's Office, Modi also inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa and dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha for the Kanakana Kindi. This window holds special reverence as the site where saint Kanakadasa is believed to have had darshan of Bhagwan Krishna.

Historic Institution Celebrates 550 Years

The Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math, where the main ceremonies took place, holds significant historical and spiritual importance. Considered the first Gowd Saraswat Brahmin Vaishnava Math, it was founded in the 13th century and remains deeply rooted in the Dvaita order.

The 550th-year celebrations attracted thousands of devotees and marked a milestone in the Math's long-standing tradition of spiritual service and cultural preservation. The installation of the 77-foot Lord Ram statue and the inauguration of the Ramayana Theme Park represent lasting contributions to India's spiritual landscape.

Prime Minister Modi's participation in these events underscores the government's recognition and support for India's diverse spiritual traditions and cultural heritage. The day's ceremonies across two states highlighted the rich tapestry of India's spiritual practices and their continuing relevance in contemporary society.
