Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a magnificent 77-foot bronze statue of Lord Rama at the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math in Goa on Friday, marking a significant cultural moment for the coastal state.
Historic Celebration at Ancient Math
The unveiling ceremony took place during the Math's Sardha Panchashatamanotsava, which celebrates 550 years of the historic institution's existence. The Prime Minister's visit highlighted the enduring spiritual legacy of one of Goa's most important religious centers.
During the event, Modi also inaugurated the newly developed Ramayana Theme Park Garden on the Math premises, creating a permanent attraction for devotees and tourists alike. The Prime Minister released a commemorative coin and a special postal stamp to mark the historic occasion.
PM Modi's Vision of Cultural Renaissance
Addressing the gathered devotees after unveiling the majestic statue, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the power of unity in national progress. "When the society unites, when each sector stands together, then the country makes a big leap," he stated.
The Prime Minister articulated that India is currently experiencing a significant cultural resurgence. He pointed to several ongoing projects as evidence of this revival, including the restoration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the extensive renovation of Kashi Vishwanath Dham, and the expansion of Mahakal Mahalok in Ujjain.
Goa's Cultural Resilience Praised
Modi specifically praised Goa for maintaining its cultural foundations despite historical challenges. He acknowledged that the region had faced periods when temples, traditions, and even language were threatened, but noted that these pressures ultimately strengthened community resolve.
"This is Goa's unique characteristic: that its culture has preserved its original form in every change and has also been revitalized with time," the Prime Minister remarked, celebrating the state's ability to maintain its cultural identity.
The Prime Minister also honored the Math's long-standing legacy, noting that the institution has endured centuries of upheaval while continuing to guide generations. "Eras changed, periods changed, many transformations occurred in the country and society, but amidst changing eras and challenges, the mutt did not lose its direction; rather, it emerged as a centre that provides direction to people, and this is its greatest identity," he stated.
Before arriving in Goa for the statue inauguration, Prime Minister Modi had participated in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana in Udupi, where thousands gathered for the mass recitation of the Bhagavad Gita, further emphasizing his commitment to celebrating India's spiritual heritage.
