The famous Koolamedu jallikattu event in Salem district kicked off on Sunday with great enthusiasm. Rajya Sabha MP S R Sivalingam and Kallakurichi MP D Malaiyarasan officially inaugurated the traditional bull-taming spectacle.
Massive Participation and Rigorous Checks
A total of 550 powerful bulls and 400 skilled bull tamers took part in the thrilling event. Organizers ensured strict adherence to safety protocols right from the start.
Mandatory Medical Examinations
Both the bull tamers and their bulls had to undergo thorough medical examinations before being allowed to participate. This precautionary measure aimed to guarantee the health and fitness of all participants.
Comprehensive Safety Arrangements
The district administration left no stone unturned in providing a secure environment. They arranged 108 emergency vehicles on standby for any medical needs. Police security was deployed throughout the venue to maintain order.
Basic facilities were set up for both participants and spectators, ensuring comfort and convenience during the event. The entire proceedings were video recorded to document compliance with court guidelines and regulations.

Ahead of the main event, organizers conducted a special oath-taking ceremony. Bull tamers and bull owners solemnly pledged to follow all government regulations throughout the jallikattu.
