The stone, located near the Hanuman temple in the village, had been venerated for decades as an idol of Shani, a deity in Hindu mythology. However, Lakshmi Prakash Humbi, a class 5 student, observed unusual carvings on the stone during a recent visit. Her sharp observation led her to alert elders in the community, prompting a closer examination that revealed the stone's true nature as a historical hero stone, a type of memorial common in ancient India to honor fallen warriors.

Lakshmi shared her inspiration, stating, "I often heard stories about Veera Rani Belawadi Mallamma, who fought bravely to rescue cattle allegedly taken away during conflicts involving the forces of Shivaji Maharaj. When I looked closely at the stone near the temple recently, I noticed carvings of a warrior protecting cows." This connection to local folklore added depth to her discovery, linking it to regional legends of heroism.

Researcher Balappa Irappa Chinagudi has provided insights into the stone's potential origins. He believes it may be a 'Turugol Veeragallu,' a specific type of hero stone commemorating individuals who died while protecting cattle. Stylistically, Chinagudi suggests the stone could date back to the 12th or 13th century, indicating it might predate the era associated with the legend of Belawadi Mallamma.
