Sindhi Community in Lucknow Celebrates Cheti Chand with Grandeur
The Sindhi community in Lucknow observed Cheti Chand, the Sindhi New Year and the birth anniversary of Lord Jhulelal, with immense religious devotion and cultural enthusiasm on Friday. The celebrations featured a grand procession and a lively fair at Jhulelal Vatika, drawing large crowds of devotees.
Procession and Devotional Fervor
Devotees gathered in significant numbers, chanting 'Jai Jhulelal' as they participated in the procession. The route commenced from Shiv Shanti Ashram in Alambagh and traversed through key areas including Charbagh, Naka, Ganeshganj, Aminabad, Nazirabad, Kaiserbagh, Lalbagh, and Hazratganj, culminating at Jhulelal Vatika. This journey symbolized the community's deep-rooted faith and collective spirit.
Colorful Tableaux and Cultural Displays
A major highlight of the event was a series of vibrant tableaux that depicted scenes from the life of Lord Jhulelal and showcased Sindhi heritage. Tableaux featuring Lord Jhulelal, Lord Ram, Lord Shiva, and Lord Krishna captivated onlookers along the procession route, offering a visual feast of religious and cultural narratives.
All-Women Scooter Rally for Empowerment
As part of the festivities, an all-women scooter rally was organized, with participants dressed in traditional attire. They rode through the city carrying flags and singing devotional songs. Organizers emphasized that this rally represented unity, empowerment, and the crucial role of women in safeguarding community traditions. Jyotsana Lalwani, a participant, expressed, "Chanting 'Jai Jhulelal' with everyone makes you feel deeply connected to your roots."
Fair at Jhulelal Vatika: Music and Cuisine
At Jhulelal Vatika, the fair was a hub of activity where devotees sang bhajans and devotional songs. Food stalls served traditional Sindhi dishes, creating a festive atmosphere. Devotee Vimlesh Mirchandani shared, "It feels like a family reunion. The food, the music, and the devotion bring us all together."
Preserving Culture for Future Generations
National president of the Sindhi community, Murlidhar Ahuja, highlighted the event's objective to preserve Sindhi culture and pass on traditions to younger generations. He stressed the importance of such celebrations in maintaining cultural identity and fostering community bonds.
