Trichy Jain Community Observes Mahavir Jayanti with Peaceful Procession
The Sri Swetambar Jain Sangh in Trichy commemorated Mahavir Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira, with a significant peace procession on Tuesday. This annual celebration brought together approximately 200 Jain families from across the city to honor the 24th and final Tirthankara, a supreme preacher in Jainism.
Grand Procession Route and Rituals
The procession commenced from the Jain temple located on Nadu Gujili Street, featuring multiple vehicles adorned with Jainism flags and carrying idols of Lord Mahavira. It traversed through key city streets including Jaffer Shah Street, Big Kammala Street, and Big Bazaar Street before concluding back at the temple. Local residents warmly welcomed the procession by performing traditional auspicious rituals along the route.
Promoting Teachings of Non-Violence
Organizers of the event took the opportunity to elucidate the core principles of Lord Mahavira, emphasizing fundamental teachings such as "live and let live" and the principle of non-violence (ahimsa). These messages were central to the day's activities, reinforcing the community's commitment to peace and harmony.
Evening Prayers and Charitable Initiatives
In the evening, special prayers were conducted at the temple, providing devotees with a moment for reflection and spiritual connection.
